This blog is a notebook for me to record my musings, experiments, learnings and connections towards making a sustainable life in the city.

I am of the generation that grew up reading David Suzuki’s childrens’ books. He encouraged an awareness of the environment and science through making things and observation. I’m not particularly gifted in the observation and science side of things, but I’ve always felt a deep affinity to the environment and I love to make things from scratch.

‘Reduce, reuse, recycle’ is a useful rule to prioritise and guide the use and disposal of products sustainably. For me, it is also a great framework for making sustainable decisions that don’t take over my life! I’m interested in seed saving, learning to identify animals and plants, preserving and visible mending. A sustainable life can take more time and consideration, so I’m also learning how to balance that goal alongside living a good life, being creative and connecting to those who mean most to me.

    Hi Rachael!
I got some information back from two yarn producers that I have used before.
Karoa fibres and North East yarns. They both have yarns that have been produced within 500km. So that’s exciting. If you send me your email, I can forward the email they sent to me, onto you.
    Hope your well,
